Xanadu had a big week for academic partnerships. The University of Guelph signed a three-year MOU with Xanadu to integrate PennyLane — Xanadu's open-source quantum software framework — into its curriculum, building a pipeline of quantum software developers and strengthening Canada's quantum talent base. Separately, Xanadu and the University of Alberta partnered to apply photonic quantum computing to cancer drug discovery, specifically to model light-matter interactions in photosensitizers used in photodynamic therapy, where quantum simulation can outperform classical methods on molecular dynamics at the right scale. On the physics side, researchers earlier this week demonstrated quantum entanglement generated directly from sunlight in an outdoor experiment — bypassing the laser sources typically needed — which could eventually reduce the energy cost and infrastructure requirements for quantum communication nodes deployed at scale.
