The quantum networking stack is starting to verticalize. Qunnect, which demonstrated entanglement distribution over 62 km of metropolitan aerial fiber last week, has partnered with Monarch Quantum to scale that technology: Monarch brings photonic system engineering, product packaging, and manufacturing expertise, while Qunnect brings the field-deployed entanglement distribution hardware. The goal is to move quantum networking from proof-of-concept lab runs to commercially deployable, manufactured hardware. Meanwhile, Quantum Optics Jena completed the world's first ISO/IEC 23837 security certification for a QKD system — their ELVIS device passed a three-month TÜV audit, establishing for the first time that quantum key distribution hardware can be independently certified against an international standard rather than relying solely on vendor claims. On the physics side, researchers demonstrated quantum entanglement generation directly from sunlight, bypassing the laser-based entanglement sources used in virtually all quantum networking experiments so far. This outdoor demonstration, if scalable, could dramatically lower the energy cost and infrastructure requirements for future quantum networks.
